Westerns are out of fashion, only a few make it to the big screen. Hostiles is a film about forgiveness, it’s a journey across the vast space of the US.
Captain Joseph Baker (Christian Bale) is assigned the task of transporting a dying North American Chief, Yellow Hawk, (majestically played by Wes Studi) to his homeland in Montana to die. The film opens with an Indian attack on a settler’s home from which Rosalie Quaid (Rosamund Pike) survives. Found by the Captain she attaches herself to the group.
The film is slow but never drags, interposed with short brutal action scenes. Super cast especially Bale & Studi. A haunting and emotional western.
