This film is difficult to catergorise, drama, fantasy, sci-fi. Set in Baltimore in 1962 during the cold war in a high security military facility where a human/amphibious creature from the Amazon is being studied. Elisa Esposito (Sally Hawkins) a mute but bright woman and friend Zelda Fuller (Octavia Spencer) are night staff cleaners. Elisa meets the creature and finds a way of communicating and bonds with him. Helping the creature escape to set him free puts her and friend in danger. Sally Hawkins never speaks but manages to communicate all the emotions, no wonder she was nominated for the best actress Oscar.
