The film explores the last quarter century of the great eccentric painter J.M.W Turner (1775-1815)
A brilliant performance by Timothy Spall who learnt how to paint in preparation for the role.
Supported by a cast of experience British character actors this slow paced film is full of eccentric characters of the day with superb detail in every scene.
Turner is not a man you'll grow to love but this slow measured film will open up his character good & bad and maybe you'll understand a little more of his paintings.
Mike Leigh brings to the screen a beautifully filmed piece with some scenes just as stunning as the paintings of the great man.
Timothy Spall received Best Actor award at the Cannes Film Festival (2014) why he was not nominated for an Oscar is a mystery.
