Linguistics professor Louise Banks (Amy Adams) is called on to lead a team with theoretical physicist Dr Ian Donnelly (Jeremy Renner) to try and communicate with extraterrestrial visitors. 12 gigantic spaceships touch down in 12 locations around the world. One lands in Montana. Her job is to try and learn the aliens’ language to enable communication with them. Are they friend or foe? It’s a race against time as others start to view them as a threat, war could erupt at any moment.
