A fresh, funny, entertaining French Romantic Comedy set in 1809. Captain Neville (Jean Dujardin) is called to the front leaving his future wife heartbroken. He neglects to send any letters to his bride-to-be so her sister starts to write letters pretending these are from him with ever more fantastic lies and making him out to be a war hero.
The problem starts when he turns up as a vagabond after deserting his regiment and then adopts the folk hero persona created for him.
